I’ve re-edited the video “Or not…” , as I found the original one to look horrific and a bit scary. I’ve deleted the original video from the server, which means the url is now void.
I wanted to test a (very well known) editing software and thought this would be a good video to try it on.
As I said before, I was bothered by the lens distortion, which is at its worst in the center of the picture/video, which is basically the half bottom of my face. It looks like under a magnifying glass, it’s not pretty and it just looks weird. So I’ve basically just “undistorted” that part of the picture/video and tweaked a few tiny stuff.
I still feel it looks unnatural, but the original video was recorded under super harsh light (nearly like neon light), and I’ve figured that harsh light is no better than very poor light. I’ve recorded a video in front of my night-stand lamp to see how it goes and it’s…dark, but why not ? I might or might not post it.
Harsh light + light enhancement + foundation + other enhancement = a flattened face, so basically it means looking a bit 2D, like an animation character. The original video was already like that, I tried to not add more.
I will be testing stuff with my next videos, using other softwares to record videos (instead of the software of my camera), so that I don’t look zoomed in like this. I’ll also try recording with the original software but with the enhancement off (there are still enhancements when it’s off, though…) and then I’ll edit the video this way. One of the softwares might make the video blurry on my phone and records in non-standard 480p, I’ll still try it.
Anyway, I’ve never liked digital cameras as I think it makes you look round and distorted. It seems that in order to look more or less like yourself or at least not like a big potato, you need to edit the videos. Digital cameras are not like a mirror, unless we’re talking about a distorted magnifying mirrors, like the ones you can find in attraction parks. You won’t look good in HD digital pictures/videos, you need enhancements and editing. It’s basically a matter of lens distortion and light reflection. Or something. Do not be fooled : if it looks pretty, it’s edited.
I said before that I didn’t edit my videos, but I was recording in 480p (which I believe doesn’t have much distortion compared to HD), and some pointed to me back then that there was obviously built-in enhancement in my old phone’s camera which was on by default and couldn’t be turned off.
So yeah. I do not really mind if there are comparisons of the original video and the new video, as I consider it to be a matter of lens distortion/technical stuff. (Allergies and swelling apart), I personally look the same all the time and do not morph into a big potato during full moon nights or whatever.
So yeah… ^_^
